Meeting Information and Voting!!!

Please note the following information and vote for the appropriate items:

  1. Wednesday, October 21, Anne Patchett will be speaking at EJ starting at 7:30. Tickets are free.
  2. Wednesday, November 11, Malcolm Gladwell will be speaking at EJ starting at 7:30. We are planning on attending it as a group if you are interested in joining us. Again, tickets will be free.
  3. Since Malcolm Gladwell is coming to speak, we thought it would be nice to have a “Malcolm Gladwell Discussion” on Thursday, November 19th at 5:15 PM in the Honors Common Room. You may choose between “Blink,” “Tipping Point,” and “Outliers.” We will be discussing all three. We are not purchasing the books this time so you can start reading as soon as you are able! Check out the books from your library or look for used books on Amazon.com.
  4. We would like to get together to discuss the ending to The Book Thief. We discussed either the week before exams (December 3) or the week of exams (December 10). People were concerned with the week prior to exams due to projects and papers due before the end of the term. PLEASE VOTE: DECEMBER 3 OR DECEMBER 10 (See below).
  5. We are also choosing the book to discuss for January! We wanted to choose a book that is now a movie so that we can have a discussion and movie night. The choices are: Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, The World According to Garp by John Irving, or The Pelican Brief by John Grisham. PLEASE VOTE FOR ONE OF THE THREE. (See below).
We’re very excited for the upcoming meetings and events! Please feel free to email either myself or Lauren with any suggestions that you may have!

Please vote by Saturday, October 24th so that we can send everyone a final schedule and look into ordering books for the January meeting.

Book Thief

The next book we are discussing is Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Our meeting will be on Thursday, October 15th at 5:15 PM in the Honors Common Room. We understand that the semester is getting crazy and you may not be able to finish the reading. Please still come to the meeting even if you have not finished the book!

Check out the write up of Book Thief in the New York Times Book Review. Please post questions or comments you have as you read!

Also, an interview with the author on amazon.com!

Enjoy 🙂
